Geodesic dome kit site preparation
Site preparation for a geodesic dome kit will vary significantly based on the characteristics of the location you’ve chosen. Site preparation on a mountain versus a flat prairie will require different steps. Important factors to consider would be the climate, site topography and access to common utilities.
The climate will need to be taken into consideration. For instance, you don’t want to set up a geodesic dome kit directly on the ground in a snowy environment. In this case, you may choose to build a deck to set it on.
If the ground is uneven you may need to bring an excavator to level it out before setting up your geodesic dome kit. Or, you may choose not to excavate and build a platform on piles for your dome.
If you land is flat and not exposed to harsh elements, site preparation is minimal.
Case 1: Easy set up
Do you have electricity on site? Do you have a sewer network that you can connect to? Can you connect to city water? Your response to those questions will direct towards the work that will need to be performed.
Most of those tasks will need to be performed either by a general contractor or by licensed subcontractors.
Case 2: Complex
In this case you will probably need to hire a General contractor because a lot of coordination will be required to prepare the site of your dome.
Electrical connection
If the site is in a remote location with no electrical access, you will need to contact the electricity company and request an electrical network extension. This is a lengthy process.
If there is an existing electrical network close to the site, a licensed electrician may be able to create a private connection. This case will always be the quickest.
Sewer and water connection
If you don’t have access to sewer and water you will need to install a septic tank or have a well dug. Someone will then need to establish a plumbing connection from the tank or well before setting up your geodesic dome kit.
